Heat strips are electric heating elements very similar to a heating element in an electric oven, it comes on to help a Heat Pump or Air Conditioner produce heat for when the temperature gets really cold outside!! Remember Heat strips are the emergency/auxiliary part of the heating system designed to work when it is exceptionally cold out they do require more energy to operate than the normal operations of the system.
